On Tuesday, Uganda’s Ministry of East African Affairs, held a meeting with the Inter-religious Council to discuss integration.
The IRCU Secretary General, Joshua Kitakule, emphasized the key role of Religious leaders to achieving a people-centered integration due to their unique relationship with members of local communities.
“The ongoing conversations on the EAC integration will help galvanize the current initiatives by state and non-state actors to create the right forums for popularizing the EAC integration issues,” he said.
Mr. Kitakule further noted that the formation of the East African Inter-Religious Council provides a strong and vibrant platform for mobilization and organization of religious leaders to enhance the culture of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and integral development
Founded in 2001, the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), is an indigenous, national faith-based organization uniting efforts of religious institutions to jointly address issues of common concern. IRCU is constituted by; the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), the Church of the Province of Uganda (Church Of Uganda-COU), the Uganda Orthodox Church (UOC), the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), the Seventh-day Adventist Uganda Union (SDAUU), the Born Again Faith in Uganda (BAF) and the National Alliance of Pentecostal and Evangelical Churches in Uganda (NAPECU).
On his part, Apostle Joseph Serwadda, thanked the minister, Hon Rebecca Kadaga for including IRCU as key stakeholders in the East African Integration.
IRCU is affiliated to Religions for Peace International (RfP), the African Council for Religious Leaders, (ACLR), the East African Community – Inter Religious Council (EAC-IRC), and the Global Women and Youth of Faith Networks.
