The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Stephen Mugalu Kaziimba, has appointed Rt. Rev, James William Ssebaggala, the retired Bishop of Mukono Diocese as the caretaker Bishop of Luweero Diocese.
This follows the abdication of Bishop Eridard Nsubuga on 9th July 2023. It also came on the heels of the nullification of the election of Bishop Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana as the 4th Bishop of Luwero Diocese. Kasana was meant to replace Eridard.

Rev James’ appointment takes effect from 18th July 2023 to 18th March 2024. Bishop Ssebaggala will give pastoral oversight over the Diocese on the Archbishop’s behalf. He will oversee administration of the Diocese, confirm candidates as delegated and baptizing adults and infants.
He will also ordain Deacons or priests and install Canons as delegated, prepare the Diocese in the process of reconciliation and healing until a new Bishop is consecrated and enthroned by the House of Bishops and other ministerial obligations as assigned from time to time.
