Uganda’s First Lady Maama Janet Museveni on Friday evening officiated the Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) fundraising dinner for Masulita Children’s Village.
The First Lady who is founder and patron of UWESOSO, praised First daughter Natasha Museveni Karugire and her team for breathing a new life into national causes.
“The support for the MCV initiative is truly commendable. My sincere appreciation goes to Natasha Museveni Karugire and her dedicated team, who, reminiscent of Nehemiah’s resolve in the Biblical tale, breathe life into national causes,” the First Lady tweeted.
Established in 1986, UWESO is national Non-Government Organisation (NGO) that seeks to improve the quality of life of vulnerable children and youth for them to survive and thrive.

As the founder and patron of Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO), it was my utmost joy and pride to officiate at the fundraising dinner in support of Masulita Children’s Village (MCV).
The support for the MCV initiative is truly commendable. My sincere appreciation goes to @Nyinancweende and her dedicated team, who, reminiscent of Nehemiah’s resolve in the Biblical tale, breathe life into national causes.
I salute everyone, from UWESO staff to board members past and present, as well as past contributors such as Tororo Cement Industry and the Chinese Embassy, for their consistent dedication to the MCV and the broader UWESO mission.
UWESO emerged during a tumultuous period in our nation’s history as a beacon of hope for countless orphans and vulnerable children. Together, with the support of many, we built this sanctuary.
Many former MCV children now serve our nation in various roles. Since 1989, UWESO has had a positive impact on over 17,400 children at MCV and has reached an additional 44,000 through its nationwide branches.
It is crucial that we address the issue of children being lured into urban areas. Every child deserves a safe environment for wholesome development.
The influx from Karamoja reflects a pressing concern. Our government has taken steps, introducing legal measures such as the Children Act 2016, to protect children. However, true change lies in our collective efforts, from opinion leaders to ordinary citizens.
By supporting initiatives like UWESO, we can strengthen the foundation of our nation. The African “extended family” culture, which ensures that no child is unloved or abandoned, must be preserved.
As Proverbs 11:25 highlights, generosity begets abundance. The heartfelt giving last night truly reflects a hopeful vision for Uganda. Together, we can nurture a nation that holds its vulnerable close to its heart.
