Finance Minister Matia Kasaija on behalf of government this morning signed a loan agreement with the Chief Executive Officer for the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) H.E. Sultan Al-Marshad for the construction and equipping of the Uganda Heart Institute.
The signed loan agreement worth USD 30 million will specifically support the civil works, equipment and furniture for the heart institute.
“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Uganda, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the beneficial and cordial cooperation with the Saudi Fund for Development,” Matia Kasaija said.

The Minister also thanked the Arab Bank for Economic Development (BADEA) and OPEC Fund for International Development who have each contributed USD 20 million as co-financing with the Saudi Fund for Development to support the Uganda Heart Institute.
The Saudi Fund for Development CEO said the project will play a huge role in supporting the healthcare sector by improving quality of services and increasing number of patients receiving medical care.
Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng, thanked the SFD for their willingness to invest in the healthcare sector in Uganda, which also demonstrates commitment to improving the lives of Ugandans. ” Your substantial financial support will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the healthcare landscape of Uganda,” said the Health Minister.
