Katakwi: At the Invitation of the Bishop of Soroti Diocese, Rt. Rev. Kosea Odongo
Vice President Jessica Alupo on Saturday afternoon, joined fellow Christians to host a pastoral visit and confirmation ceremony in Ameca orukurukun village, Katakwi district.

The pastoral visit begun with a Church Service, led by the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Kosea Odongo.

In her speech, the Vice President , also woman MP-Katakwi District urged the faithfuls to live healthy and careful lifestyles if they are to achieve their dreams. “You should keep a healthy status by avoiding risky lifestyles,” Alupo remarked, as she cautioned the audience at Okolimo Primary School in Usuk Sub County, where the prayers were held.

Known for extensive fruit farming, the Vice President encouraged the farmers to rekindle deeper interest and passion in growing more fruits because, government has already given Sh48bn towards the expansion of Soroti fruit factory which will consume all the local fruits. The factory was commissioned in 2019 and has recently started on expansion plans undertaken by the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC). This expansion will see increased demand for supply from the farmers.

Alupo used the occasion to further popularize the Parish Development Model (PDM), which is a government strategy for organizing and delivering public and private sector interventions for wealth creation and employment at the parish level, the lowest economic planning unit.

“This will ensure support for more Ugandans to increase their demand for goods and services, it is an opportunity you must not miss,” she added, tasking them to consult their parish chiefs always.

Bishop Odongo, in his message, advised Christians to continue working hard to combat the poverty levels in households.

The Bishop also urged the congregation to promote the education of both the girl child and boy child to achieve full social and economic transformation.

At the ceremony, the Vice President was accompanied by Hon Rose Lily Akello, the woman MP, Karenga who doubles as State Minister for Ethics and Integrity and Bosco Okiror-MP Usuk county who also doubles as chairperson Teso Parliamentary group (TPG).
