Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday handed over a site where a modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Arua Regional Referral Hospital will be constructed with funding from the World Bank, Government of Uganda under Uganda Covid-19 Response and Emergency Preparedness Project (UCREPP).
Tuesday’s handover was officiated by the commissioner Health Infrastructure Department, Eng George Otim.

The facility will be constructed by Haso Engineers Limited and supervised by Arch design ltd. The total cost for the construction of this ICU is approximately UGX7.92b.
Ministry of Health has been upgrading Intensive Care Units into fully fledged Intensive Care Departments of 20bed HDU and 10bed ICUs. International standards were taken into consideration and these facilities will attain international accreditations.
It is a 30bed capacity facility that serves dual purposes of the essential Intensive care needs and can quickly be converted into an Isolation Intensive Care facility in the event of highly infectious diseases outbreaks. It is equipped with a theatre, a satellite laboratory, an imaging facility, and a body holding area.
Under UCREPP Ministry of Health is constructing in Arua and Kabale while Hoima, Masaka, Mubende, Jinja, and Mbale are in the final stages or remodeling
